Climate Change

Opportunities to foster positive community relations

2020 April 2: Mangroves can absorb and store as much as 10 times more carbon than terrestrial ecosystems. This makes them a vital tool in the struggle to reverse the effects of Climate Change. Vital to coastal ecosystems and communities, mangroves provide breeding habitats for a vast variety of aquatic species and protects shoreline wildlife. They protect the land in coastal areas, their dense root systems acting as natural buffers against storm surges.

Regeneration of mangroves, or establishing new beds are projects which port-community relations can foster and manage.

Ports should seize every opportunity to engage with their neighbourhood communities in the epic struggle to contain global Climate Change. Good corporate citizens will usually seek ways to foster harmonious relations with their host community and Climate Change at this dire moment in history presents such an opportunity. []
