OECS Port Management Committee inaugural meeting a success

2016, June 1: The inaugural meeting of Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Port Management Committee ended in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on March 4, 2016 with a sense of satisfaction among participants who declared it a huge success.

By the end of the three-day deliberations, the OECS Port Management Committee had elected Darwin Telemaque Chairman of the new entity and Wendy Francette-Williams was elected Deputy Chair. Mr. Telemaque is CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority and Mrs. Francette-Williams is General Manager of the Grenada Airport Authority.

The OECS Port Management Committee is a subgroup of the Regional Taskforce on Free Circulation of Goods which has oversight for activities geared toward implementing a regime for the free circulation of goods in the OECS Economic Union. The union comprises Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, and Anguilla.

The meeting was attended by managers from the OECS Airports and Seaports Authorities. They examined the current state of port logistics in the OECS Economic Union with a view to assessing their readiness to facilitate the free circulation of goods and a Single Domestic Space for the hassle free movement of passengers traveling within the Caribbean region.
