New tugs for Kingston

2020, April 2: Ocean J. Towing Inc., the Canadian company delivering towage services in the Port of Kingston, brought its two recently acquired tugs into operations following on-site ceremonies on January 28, 2020.

The two 24-metre vessels, Ocean Kingston Pride and Ocean Tallawah, were described as state-of-the-art. Delivering towage services to the Port Authority of Jamaica, in a 10-year agreement since June 2018, Ocean expressed confidence in the new technology. Kingston Pride, built at Sanmar Denizcilik Makine shipyard in Turkey, is equipped with water cannons capable of delivering 2,800 m3/hour. It is propelled by two ZDrive type omni-directional propellers and two engines with a tractive power of 6,303 bhp and an 80-ton bollard pull. Tallawah was built at Damen shipyard in Vietnam. Its water cannons can deliver 2,400 m3/hour. It is propelled by two omnidirectional Z-Drive type props, plus two engines with a pulling power of 5,632 bhp and a 73-ton bollard pull. []
